Paul Jacob Haerlen was born March 22, 1888 in Magnetawan to Jacob Haerlen and Maria Agnes Schmidt. At the time of 1891, 1901 and 1911 census the family was identified as living in Chapman Township. In 1911, Paul was identified as ‘farmer’s son’.
Paul enlisted January 8, 1918 in the 2nd Depot Battalion of the 2nd,C.O.R.
According to his Discharge Certificate Paul served in England and was discharged on February 18, 1919.
